The Style Polaroid

>>You read and write and sing and experience, thinking
that one day these things will build the character you admire to live as.
You love and lose and bleed best you can, to the extreme, hoping that one day the world will read you
like the poem you want to be…<<

- Charlotte Eriksson

When you grow up, everything turns into a frightening, formidable ocean of challenges, one bigger than the former. You are forced into deciding what you want, who you want to be and what would be best to change about yourself in order to become the person you’re aiming to be - when you don’t even know for sure who you are right now, in this particular moment, during this particular heart beat.
The world comes crashing down while you’re desperately trying to breathe, trying not to drown in the emotions coming with the challenges society bombards you with, expecting that you’ll take them smoothly.

But then you take a step back, take a deep breath and lock the world’s unbearable noise out, so the only sound ringing in your head is your inner voice, whispering shyly and telling you what is best for you. And that is the voice that has to be listened to. Because it’s the voice of your heart.

One thing about growing up, and growing older, unfortunately, is that you stop trying to please everyone else but yourself. Most people are too busy convincing themselves that what others have planned for them is the right choice to go for that they have forgotten how it works to just listen to what their heart tells them to do.

I sometimes wonder where I would have ended up if I had listened to other people’s advice regarding my life choices. I would probably be spending my evenings wondering how it would have been if I had actually done what I have passion for, and kicked myself for it.

If I paraphrased the descriptions of apparent adulthood I have received in the last few years by several supposed adolescent people, I would have to tell you that growing up means ending up in a job that you don’t like, doing things that you don’t like, living a life that you like even less. Back when I was eighteen, such descriptions scared the living hell out of me. Because apparently, there’s no room for dreamers like me, who dare think outside the box.

That was basically the moment I told myself I would word my definition of Growing Up myself. That was also the moment I started to figure out who I actually was and even more importantly, who I actually wanted to be.

Growing Up is about keeping your inner child alive, letting yourself have those moments of utter childish joy paired with unstoppable laughter.

Growing Up is about experiencing your boundaries and gladly step over them to find an even bette version of your already stunning self.

Growing Up is about redefining the world as you wish. We are not made to be forced into society’s stereotypes. That’s what defines us as individuals.

Growing Up is about believing in your skills and abilities and trusting your capability to decide what is best for you.

Growing Up is about exploring the world, visiting the most beautiful and breathtaking places and widen your horizon with every step you take.

Growing Up is about developing your own opinion regarding all kinds of topics in the world. We are not made to be forced into believing something we don’t support 100%.

Growing Up is living your dreams. When we are young, they tell us that everything in the world is possible if we just try hard enough and believe in ourselves. Why should that change just because we aren’t toddlers in kindergarten anymore?

Growing Up is about finding your feet. Find out where your roots are and your branches will be able to grow straight up to the sky.

Growing Up is about realising that you need to feel comfortable with yourself at first in order to make others feel comfortable in your environment.

Growing Up is about loving, living, dreaming as much and as hard as you can. Only deeply felt emotions will turn into being the best stories grandparents are telling their grandchildren while sitting in their rocking chairs.

Growing Up is about passion. It’s about a deep dedication not only towards life but also towards the things we’re doing while living. Make seemingly impossible things possible.

Because life’s a miracle.

And so is growing up.

I saw from the beach

I saw from the beach, when the morning was shining,
A bark o'er the waters move gloriously on;
I came when the sun o'er that beach was declining,
The bark was still there, but the waters were gone.

And such is the fate of our life's early promise,
So passing the spring-tide of joy we have known;
Each wave that we danced on at morning ebbs from us,
And leaves us, at eve, on the bleak shore alone.

Oh, who would not welcome that moment's returning
When passion first waked a new life through his frame,
And his soul, like the wood that grows precious in burning,
Gave out all its sweets to love's exquisite flame.

- Thomas Moore

When you breathe in the breezy air carrying salty winds from the ocean towards the coast, you suddenly feel carried away into a small paradise of white sand moving beneath your feet like an actual living creature, memorising your footsteps only until the next wave meets the shore and washes them away like a hasty memory. The calming noise of unsteady water colliding with a sea of grains of sand is soothing for a stressed mind and the sun, heating up bare skin, makes the water surface glitter like diamonds set into liquid.

Bare feet meet hot sand and cooling water.

The perfect symbiosis of water and earth.

A paradise for itself.

Hiding in the Mountain Range

Peaceful words flow in and out,
inside,
outside,
all about,
wondering over the waves and foam
searching and looking for a new home
as the sun sets
the moon shall rise
never leaving gaps
in the mountains ties
where the water meets the mountain
and the mountain meets the sky
the words will flow,
like the ocean waves,
like the clouds above,
like the ground below
in the mountain range.
Echo

Peaceful minds travel to peaceful places to find their inner peace.

When you’re having a tough time feeling like everything in your life is slowly falling apart and someone is pulling the ground open beneath your feet, you need to break free and find places close to the infinite sky, where eternity is more present than anywhere else and the colour of the sky melts into the gleamy mountain tops covered with sparkling snow all year long.

Black and White

White dazzles my inner divide,
Black thrown in with my unruly side,
My parents wave me a lingering goodbye,
They have always nurtured my childlike soul,
As I try to fly from my warm nest,
To accomplish and try to be the best,
In a world full of colour so bold,
I'm painted black and white,
Standing out for all the wrong reasons,
I dare to fight,
I always daydream in multicolour scenes of joy,
Living is a struggle with silent screams of turmoil,
Stirring the concoction to the boil,
As i listen to remarks that stick permanently,
I try and climb to a great height,
To discover a view, that I can never see,
I bounce back into a fantasy of nature holding my hand,
Accepting my limitations,
Tasting the sweet prospect of finding words a sensation,
Black and white finds the curious light,
That shimmers with substance and dances across the page in ink,
I cross a a wide bridge that is my link,
To dissolving the empty divide,
Like the certainty of the incoming tide.

Hazel Durham

What we forget is that black and white, the shades we don’t even consider colours in the first place, consist of the most beautiful arrangement of colours nature can create. They hold a rainbow within their unremarkable self, remaining a wall flower inbetween bright individuals until you let them shine themselves. Just because people have painted their world in black and white, doesn’t necessarily mean that their world is colourless. In the contrary, they let all the colours turn into light. Light and Darkness. The Good and the Bad. Yin and Yang. Life and all its shades.

Today's post is just a short dedication to my brand new vans, which I have been obsessed with since the minute I put them on and to the fact that you don't always need a lot of colours to make it shine.

At certain points in life you just need to get away from everything to find back to yourself and the ones you keep the closest to you. Visit new places you’ve never been to to explore the hidden beauty captured within the heart of cities unfamiliar to you. Talk to people who speak a different language and try food you would not necessarily go for because otherwise you’ll never know what you have missed.
Bolzano in South Tyrol in Italy is a city I would have never expected to be a place radiating such a unique atmosphere and captivating energy, starting from the crowds of people pushing their way through congested little side ways to busy marketeers trying to enthusiastically sell their goods at their little market stalls. Cute restaurants with all sorts of Italian specialities are spread all over the historic city centre, inviting their guests with delicious smelling food.

It’s strange how the most beautiful, most inspiring spots which radiate the most capturing atmosphere are majorly hidden at places you would never expect them to be and finding them makes you realise how easily you can convey this message to daily life.

Beauty remains hidden.
Thriving in the silence that is left in the tiny spaces in-between our hectic routine.
It doesn’t find you.
It must be found.
With open eyes and an open heart.

The Magical Spell of Spring

Love and laughter
Whispers and smiles
Gifts of kindness
All spread for a while

Dancing leaves and flowers
Spreading its scented spell
As Spring is here again
With its magical dwell

Smiling sun and moon
Spreading the music of life
With bright colors of love
Flowing smoothly to survive

Where sunshine brings hope
With warm memories of spring
And touch the day with a smile
To brighten everything

Where colors play with magic
And show us a beginning new
That brings with it for all
Joy and pleasure true

For Spring is here again
With its scented spell
To bring life to the world
With its magical dwell.

- Seema Chowdhury

Spring has officially let the sun start to spread its first warm and caressing rays over the world and calls nature back from hibernation. Everything that has been painted in pale and cold colours in the winter months is now turning back to radiating bright, colourful and soothing beauty.
Thick coats can be put back into the corner of people’s wardrobes again and are replaced by tucked up, ripped jeans and sneakers, which are welcomed back warmly.
Slowly the world comes to life again and with her people find their joy in spending their days outside again.

After what seems to have been way too long I am back on MomentousMoments sharing my first stroll through spring’s breezy, warming air, spending my Easter break at the place I was born and raised, to find my roots again and to remember the importance of life’s little presents, to refill my body with energy and to newly fuel my wanderlust after months of stressful events and tiring university duties.
