The Style Polaroid

With the sun constantly bringing the joys of spring in the last couple days, it is finally time to remove the warming winter coats from the wardrobe and replace them with pieces more suitable for sunny days spent outside. Even though spring is a genuinely amazing season in terms of fashion, it can indeed turn out to be quite tricky to dress appropriately and in ways that won’t end up with people getting a cold. The mornings and evenings can still be undeniably chilly, whereas the rest of the day tends to be warm enough for one to step outside with one layer only. Which is the reason why spring, just like autumn, is an amazing period for layering and shoes like loafers. Loafers and espadrilles won’t make you get cold feet but will also be light enough for one not to sweat during the day when walking the city in the sun.

Furthermore, it is finally acceptable again to wear smartly choses touches of colours and put on jeans in lighter colours as the mud and the dirt from the past winter have finally fully disappeared. Sweaters are generally perfect for unpredictable spring weather and can be combined and styles in  uncountable different ways, the classics including either a leather jacket or a simply duster or trench coat.

As hard as it is for me to admit because I have always had the opinion that style is defined by one’s individual personality, the fashion world is still primarily shaped by the latest trends. Trends that are not always as affordable as we would like them to be. Whilst the blogger world is granted almost unlimited access to the latest fashion must haves, the fashion loving working class is forced to look for less expensive options to create outfits of similar quality. Fortunately, high street fashion brands have picked up on this phenomenon and have developed concepts such as high fashion collaborations and affordable collections to make the high fashion trends accessible for the majority of our community.

Statement belts have been taking over the fashion world, and bloggers have been opting for the omnipresent Gucci monogram statement belt, the majority of the world’s fashion lovers have been looking for a more affordable option. Multiple online retailers and high street fashion stores have added double bucket belts to their collections and stocks, which makes them a perfect alternative to the high fashion brand statement belts. Combined with simple, monochrome colours and casual street wear the belts can be turned into an it piece that adds a special edge to every outfit. Especially high waisted jeans fit the purpose of the statement belts.

In addition to the belt I added my latest favourite in terms of accessories. Not only do I enjoy choosing my rings and necklaces to match my outfits, I also love changing up my watches in order to make them go with the style I’m going for every day. In this case I went for my new, black and gold Johnny Loves Rosie watch as it fit the overall look and matched the colour of the belt buckles.

There are those days in life on which we couldn’t care less about dressing up and trying to create a look that makes heads turn on the streets. Sometimes not only our minds need detoxing and relaxation, our physical being does as well crave well deserved, laid back quality time.
Most people’s definition of chilled, cozy outfits involves a pair of sweatpants to get into the right mood. Sweatpants have found their way back into fashion in the last two years by designers creating street wear pieces with a certain edge, which has resulted in an increased acceptance amongst the general public when it comes to wearing them as an everyday look.

I still believe, however, that comfort mustn’t necessarily be connected to sweatpants. Chilled outfits can already be created by combining trousers in a soft, cozy fabric with an oversized sweater in a colour and fabric of choice. Finished off with a pair of sneakers that fit the colour scheme of the outfit, a relaxed every day look is achieved. A pair of boxer braids does the job of perfecting the laid back street style look and add an additional bit of comfort. (But, girls, let’s be honest, we mainly braid our hair to get those annoying strands out of the way.)

If someone had asked me a couple years ago which kind of jewellery I was into, my answer would have contained adjectives such as large, heavy and extravagant. We’ve all been through that phase in which we wore heavy statement necklaces and large, strangely coloured hoops that I still have no explanation to why they found their way into my jewellery casket. I am bringing this up mainly because I have recently stumbled across old pictures of my best friend and I from when we were both innocent 15 and my non-existent sense of fashion during that period of my life genuinely put me in a bit of a shock. It is relieving, however, knowing that life gives you time to grow, to experience and to find yourself in every possible area of your life and if it only concerns the way you present yourself to the world.

Now, seven years later, I have not only gained experience but I have also developed a different appreciation of life in general and this is what I am also trying to reflect in the way I dress. Whereas I always considered it so important that accessories are seen and have to be colourful, bright and big to make an impression when I was younger, I have come to the conclusion that that is not the case at all. I have grown to love dainty, small and fragile jewellery as it subconsciously represents the breakable, but extraordinarily precious parts of what we are. Jewellery is worn best whenever it’s subtle but still has the power to attract attention. It underlines the effect of the outfit but doesn’t overtake it.

Made By Mel provided me with the most amazing set of pieces that I will proudly wear with my upcoming spring and summer outfits and combines all the factors I enjoy most about jewellery. The beaded bracelets are beautifully made and especially the combination of white beads and rose gold details is something that can be easily combined with other elegant jewellery to create a feminine look.

As a lover of chokers I have found myself to be very picky when deciding which chokers I am willing to wear. Made By Mel offers a huge variety of different types of chokers which means there should be something for everyone. My personal favourites are the black, wattled flower choker as well as the golden pearl choker which I personally have already worn multiple times. The fit is perfect and the choker can easily be layered with other slightly longer, dainty necklaces which creates a remarkable look.
