The Style Polaroid

Christmas is a time of peace, of silence, of humbleness and kindness.

Christmas is for thinking of the ones you love, the ones you care about, the ones who make you smile and your life worthwhile.

Christmas is magical, full of lights brighting up the darkness.

Christmas is the smell of mulled wine and baked apples, the laughter of delighted children playing in the snow.

Christmas is sweet innocence, forgetting about sorrows and sadness and worries.

Christmas is family time, finding their way back to each other, a time to forgive, forget and learn to love again.

Christmas is this small space of time where everything is sparkly and surreal, a bubble of joy we escape ourselves into after a year of hard work and difficult challenges.

Christmas are songs we belt out into the world, together in a million people choir.

Christmas is the small spark that sets your heart on fire and makes you feel warm despite the freezing air surrounding you.

Christmas was never about what we own or we want.

It is about love. And love is timeless.

But if so… can’t it be Christmas everyday?

It's Christmas Time Again

Put your problems on probation
Run your troubles off the track,
Throw your worries out the window
Get the monkeys off your back.
Silence all your inner critics
With your conscience make amends,
And allow yourself some happiness
It’s Christmas time again!

Call a truce with those who bother you
Let all the fighting cease,
Give your differences a breather
And declare a time of peace,
Don’t let angry feelings taint
The precious time you have to spend,
And allow yourself some happiness
It’s Christmas time again!

  Like some cool refreshing water
Or a gentle summer breeze,
Like a fresh bouquet of flowers
Or the smell of autumn leaves,
It’s a banquet for the spirit
Filled with family, food and friends,
So allow yourself some happiness
It’s Christmas time again!

It gets cold outside, fog covers the landscape, embracing the world with its mysterious aura. Nature goes silent, shortly before the first snowflakes fulfill their little dance in the freezing air and settle themselves on earth to cover it like a blanket for a three month sleep, while we cuddle up in warm, cosy houses, treating ourself with a cup of tea or hot chocolate, maybe adding some marshmallows, the hot steam of the freshly brewed beverage making our cheeks blush.
Blankets, cookies, early nights.

That..  is winter.

There are points in life where you have to let go of something familiar, something you were used to and something you only subconsciously appreciated because you never thought about something being able to change.

But change is part of our lives, it’s always present because every decision we make somehow defines our future and what is going to happen next. Change is not a bad thing at all, it much rather gives us the opportunity to explore another part of our self that hasn’t even been discovered before probably. Some people are scared of change, but noone should be. I rather suggest welcoming change with open arms, being curious about what adventure life’s going to come up with next.

The biggest change of my life until now happened last year in September, more precisely, the beginning of October. I had started going to university back then and it was the first time I seriously had to take care of myself. It was hard work and needed some time to get used to but I think I’ve arranged myself quite well because now It’s been a year since I left home for good. I still get back to my home town and my parents’ place a lot, and I still consider it home, but there’s another place now which I consider home as well, as I spend the majority of my life in my university town.

What is home?
Home can be literally anywhere. It basically doesn’t matter where you go, if you have people there who you truly love and who make you forget about time, then it’s already home. As long as you feel settled and comfortable within your environment, if your surroundings, no matter if it’s people or just plain landscape, make you feel like you don’t wanna leave anymore, then it’s home.

People fill an empty place with the beat of life, make it their own, and fill it with an atmosphere of comfortableness and cosiness. Even when you leave, a part of your soul and your heart always stays there, connected to a room or place, a bond that could never be broken, because it was you who made that place come alive, with bits and pieces of yourself and your memories.

The advantage of living in your own place is that you can basically do whatever you want, which means that also the decoration is completely up to you. I’m not keen on having too much useless stuff in my room as it just collects dust on the shelves and that’s not the purpose of decoration. I’ve always been a little bit obsessed with interior design and so I happen to always have ideas on my mind of what I could change about my room to make it look perfect. I’m in love with small accessories which are well placed and on point because it’s majorly the little things which make the difference in the end. The motto is: Never too much but the right dose.

I tend to keep my work space quite clean as it annoys and distracts me from work when my folders are all over the place. Even though my desk is supposed to be my place to work on and be productive, I personally still need a somewhat comfortable atmosphere to be fully focused and concentrated. I'm always having troubles with keeping my mess somehow sorted so I always need to remind myself to sort the piles of papers I collect within a week of uni into my folders otherwise they’d probably get lost within two weeks.

My bed is kind of my safe heaven. After a tough day I throw myself into the pillows and snuggle down in them and am just the happiest person alive. I’ve always been a bit of a dreamer and that’s probably the reason why I wanted to turn my room into some sort of my personal wonderland of fairy lights, pillows, scented candles and flowers. Probably won’t be able to do that anymore once I’m moving in with my presently non existent boyfriend in the future so why not take advantage of my single situation?
I still try to keep it classy though as I’m not a fan of all that pink, stereotypic, girly stuff. If people are, that’s completely ok, because individuality is one of the most essential qualities nowadays, but it would probably drive me insane if I was forced into staying in a completely pink furnished room.

Anyway, to come to an end I want to get back to the whole definition of home again.

We, who are able to have access to a space we can use to seclude ourselves from the challenges and difficulties of the world, should feel so incredibly lucky as a large amount of people in this world will never have the chance to step into a room filled with love, life and memories.

Appreciate everything you have and create your own individual, perfect home you can just let yourself fall into, with all the people you love and all the memories you want to share and create with them.

Loads of love,

Today’s blog post will be going back to a more beauty focussed topic, more specifically, I’ll be talking about some absolutely incredible hair products which I have been using lately and which have made my hair softer and silkier than they’ve ever been before.

I always used to struggle quite a lot with my hair structure as it always tended to look quite damaged due to the natural waves I have. In addition, I’ve been dying my hair since I was about 14   which doesn’t quite contribute to a healthy hair structure. Since I’ve started bleaching the tips of my hair last year to get an ombre effect it has only gotten worse.

In the last couple of years I’ve tried out a lot of different products from different brands and have also approached my hairdresser for advice but none of the products I used have actually helped improving my hair structure. Back in May I had to cut the last 15 cm of my hair as they were nothing but spliss ends anymore, which made me realize that I had to change the way of maintaining my hear drastically.
For my birthday in June, a very good friend of mine got me an absolutely wicked body treatment box from „The Body Shop“ containing body peeling and bath salt, as well as a range of shampoo, conditioner and hair butter especially made for damaged and coloured hair in a scent called „Rainforest Radiance“.

After using it for the first time I was impressed how silky my hair already felt before I had even blow dried it. Since I’ve been taking a lot more care of my hair recently, I’m trying to keep the heat of my blow dryer relatively low to put my hair under the least heat possible as too much heat makes my hair look dried out and unhealthy.
I’m also using a heat protection spray from „Glem Vital“ to help keeping the hair structure healthy and strong.

To contribute to my natural waves I tend to use a rather big round brush as well as a brush especially made to comb wet hair without leaving annoying knots in your hair which hurt when you brush through them with a normal brush.

I have to say I’m so much happier with my hair since I’ve started using these products and the scent is also quite nice and gives a really enjoyable smell to your hair. If you tend to easily get or have damaged hair or just want to prevent spliss ends in advance I would highly recommend these products. I am aware that they are not in the cheapest price category but I think healthy looking hair is worth spending a bit more money on because healthy hair can also give you a little boost regarding your self esteem as hair is a rather important part of our appearance.

I hope you enjoyed this rather short, little blog post and don't hesitate to ask if any questions occur.

As I explained in the former blog posts, part 3 of my „Exploring London“ - series is going to be the last and final one and it’s going to be my favourite one as well.
This blog post isn’t going to be particularly long but it’s basically about the most fun part of trips to different cities for me. During my trip I spent a lot of time on different shopping streets like Oxford and Regent Street and I also visited some High Street Fashion stores in Carnaby Street.

Highlights were definitely Portobello Road Market and Victoria’s Secret, which I’m going to talk about more specifically later.

M.A.C lipstick "Charismatic" ; M.A.C blush "Peachykeen";  Naked 2 by Urban Decay; Real Techniques Eye Kit

As you see I have stocked up my make up section quite a bit and added some items I have been waiting for for quite some time. I finally purchased my first ever Naked palette by Urban Decay which I had been looking forward to buying for literally ages. I could have ordered the palette via internet as well but it would have been a lot more expensive and I also refused to buy a product via internet which I had never tried out before. I always want to take a look at products personally and maybe try out a sample if possible before I purchase something so I can easily prevent purchases I could regret afterwards. The Naked palette, however, surpassed all my expectations. The wide range of nude colours is perfect for a night going out but can also be used as a casual every day make up. I picked the Naked 2 palette as I personally liked the colour range of the second palette best but of course this decision is completely up to everyone individually.

In connection with the Naked palette I also went to Boots as I had always wanted to own some Real Techniques brushes as a lot of friends had recommended them to me and I wanted to give them a try. I had formerly used absolutely basic brushes which you can purchase at every normal drug store so those were my first kind of more professional brushes. I have used them every day since I bought them and I don’t regret buying them at all. There are several brush sets available, such as face brushes and brushes especially made for eye make up and eye brow definition but I decided that I would just go for the eye make up brushes to get to know the brand and due to me being a bit obsessed with eye shadows and defining my eyes in general.
To be honest with you, after having used those brushes for some days I basically got rid of all the eye make up brushes I formerly had because they just can’t be compared to the Real Techniques brushes neither quality wise nor usage wise. The material the brushes are made of is incredibly soft and they are so perfect for applying eye shadows and blending them in as well. The set additionally contains an eye brow brush as well as an eyeliner brush which I haven’t used yet as I am still using my liquid eyeliner from Astor so the eyeliner brush is currently not needed.

I also stocked up my M.A.C make up section again as this brand is and will basically always be my favourite. There is this absolutely cute, little M.A.C store in Carnaby which I came across by coincidence and just had to go in and have a look. As you see it didn’t remain me just looking (as if this would ever work for me haha). The staff was incredibly helpful and nice and I found what I had wanted after not more than five minutes.

M.A.C lipstick "Charismatic" ; M.A.C blush "Peachykeen"
I actually didn’t plan rambling about my make up purchases that long to be honest but I think make up needs a bit more explanation than clothes. Picking up on that, I want to continue with the rest of my purchases. I won’t explain the items a lot because they are pretty self-explaining.

Bikini - Victoria's Secret
One single thing I want to comment on the picture above is that I am absolutely in love with the way the staff at Victoria’s Secret treats you. As it was my first time at the store I spent the first couple of minutes with walking around between the shelves and tables not knowing where to look or go first. I must have looked pretty overwhelmed and confused because one of the staff members instantly approached me and helped me find out my exact size, helped me pick up the correct size  of the items I wanted to try on and showed me around the huge store as well. As you see I ended up buying an absolutely beautiful bikini in stunning summer colours and an adorable and detailed pattern.

All items - Topshop

Crop Top - Forever 21

jewelry - Forever 21 ; scarf - H&M

The little necklace you can see in the black box is actually from my day trip to Stonehenge. I picked this adorable accessory up at the souvenir shop as they had a seperate jewelry section with gorgeous little silver and gold charms and I found the one I bought particularly cute as it looks like a little sun at first sight but it actually shows the Stonehenge stones from above.

As I said I’m going to split up my trip to London into three parts, as I want it to be easier to overview and less overwhelming and confusing. Part One was about what I wore while exploring London and you can find the blog post by clicking on the link below:

http://momosprettylittleworld.blogspot.co.at/2014/07/exploring-london.html

Today’s blog post, as I mentioned in my last blog entry as well, will be about everything I did and the places I went to during those five days I was in London.

What I Did…

Day 1

On the first day we arrived shortly after 10 AM at Heathrow airport, so we still had the whole day ahead of us. Even though it took us quite some time to get to our hotel as we had to take the underground and it takes a while to get from Heathrow airport to the city center.
Our hotel was located right opposite of Kensington Gardens and our room offered an incredible view straight over the tree tops of the park.

Unfortunately I barely have pictures to show you from the first day as we basically spent it on Oxford and Regent Street, not forgetting Carnaby Street, a lovely pedestrian area with lots of adorable little shops and cafes.

Apparently there's absolutely no London without at least one Starbucks... yup, I obviously couldn't resist the temptation

In the evening we went out for dinner to an incredibly lively pub called „The Swan“, located on Bayswater Road, which I had been to already on former London trips but the food and the drinks are so delicious there so we decided to just stay loyal and go there again.
If you ever get the chance to eat there you have to try the „Wings on Fire“ and their homemade burger!

Threesome ;D

Day 2

As we had taken my aunt with us to London as well and due to the fact that she had never been to London or the UK before, we decided to show her around a bit and take her to some of the most important places in London you just have to see when you’ve never been to London before. So we did some touristy stuff in the morning, including the Houses of Parliament, the National Gallery and one of my favourite places to be, Covent Garden. I absolutely adore this lively, atmospheric market hall with its tiny shops and market stalls and I can’t think of anything better than sitting outside of one of the small cafes watching life going on in front of you.
There’s this one cupcake shop which I totally love because they definitely have the best cupcakes I have ever eaten. Hands down!
Not surprising at all that I ended up buying one, is it?

There you have me admiring food ...

... and there you have me eating food.

Day 3

Day 3 was as lovely as the former days had been and so we kept enjoying the sun and the warm temperatures by having some delicious cups of iced coffee and strolling through Green Park, joining a large amount of other people in the grass who just seemed to love life at that moment. Went past Buckingham Palace as well and waved some of the guards. They didn’t wave back, what a surprise :D

We also went to Portobello Road Market where I felt like I had entered heaven. There were so many different, interesting people, street a cappella bands and merchants wherever you looked and I was fascinated by the amount of people who strolled through the street, stopping in front of small shops and tables full of more or less useful bric-a-brac.
The atmosphere this street is surrounded by is captivating and it locks you up in a colourful bubble of joy you can't escape so easily. It's located in the center of a wealthy part of the town and you wouldn't expect something so beautiful being hidden between clean white houses.

Anyway, we also visited Harrod’s and Selfridges that day just for living a short luxurious moment. Next thing on my Must-Have-Fashion-bucket list is definitely one of those gorgeous clutches from Chanel. Have already started saving up but I guess it will take a couple of years of work until I can finally afford this beauty… :P
You will probably be able to read a completely messed up blog post with me freaking out over a hand bag when the day arrives. I hope you all will still be sticking with me then.

Day 4

Sunday was actually the only day where the weather was quite cloudy and unpredictable. It wasn’t cold at all but the clouds in the sky were still slightly worrying us.
Day 4 was the day we went on a half day trip to Stonehenge, which hopefully everyone of you has at least heard of. For those who haven’t, it’s basically a mystical circle of giant stones right in the middle of nowhere and its actual, original function is still unclear to researchers. I enjoyed the trip a lot as I had always wanted to visit Stonehenge as I’m quite into legends and mystical places. They somehow fascinate me and make me think of how little we actually know about the world and what has been and is going on in it.

Before we headed to Victoria station where our bus was going to depart, we went to this absolutely gorgeous little cafe on Regent Street called Cafe Royal. It belongs to the eponymous hotel right next to the cafe and they’re even connected with each other through a door.
I had the best macarons I have ever eaten in my whole life and also the coffee I had ordered was just delicious.
(I have the slight feeling that a lot of stuff in this blogpost revolves around me eating oops.. )

The cafe is quite pricy to be honest with you but the quality and service they offer is just legendary.

Day 5

Monday frustrated me because firstly, it was a Monday and secondly, it was the day we had to go home. Even though I already consider London home as well. Anyway, the point is that I didn’t want to go home at all but all good things come to an end and London has definitely not seen the last of me.

This picture is not in any way further edited just to make that clear

Part Three of my London series will be going online soon, it’s in progress ^^

Until then,

Loads of love
