The Style Polaroid

Everyone in my closest environment knows that I have always had a tendency and soft spot for the extraordinary. Normal and general have always been things that never really appealed to me as I have always considered myself a person who wanted to be the one brightly coloured spot in a grayish, plain crowd. I have never had the feeling to be forced to prove anything to anyone, I just wanted to do it for myself, because being different and individual is something that has fascinated me ever since. I have embraced changes and made myself grow stronger with them and I suppose I sort of adjusted my style to what person I aspired to be at some point.

Recently, my soft spot for extraordinary Chelsea boots has evolved and thrived and blossomed and become even stronger than it had already been a year ago. Shoes are sometimes so highly underappreciated and often forgotten, even though it’s always them which catch our subconscious eye immediately when we pass random people in the street. Especially this season, extravagant prints and patterns on shoes are experiencing their shining revival and I am too keen on stocking up my collection even further. A bold pattern should not scare you away, it should much rather make you accept the challenge of combining plain, simple pieces with extraordinary, unique extras.

Messing with the standards, breaking them and trying something individual has always been something I enjoyed doing not only in daily life but also in regards of the way I tend to dress myself. Fashion has always been a way of self expression for me as I think our individual style genuinely reflects our personality. Or at least it should do so. There’s this thin line between dressing the way society expects you too and the way that actually makes you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin. In this respect one might have to make a choice of what to opt for, pleasing society’s expections or not minding what people might think of you. I’d go for the latter any day.

Unfortunately I am not the kind of person who’s necessarily keen on all stuff Halloween so I decided, instead of a cliché Halloween make up/outfit post, to post an incredible cupcake recipe I just recently tried out for the first time and was amazed by. The cupcakes are easy to make, you don’t need any special ingredients you wouldn’t get in your local grocery store and the result regarding the taste is just mouthwatering and delicious.

All you need is:

The pastry:
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 50g / 1.5oz butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 70 g / 2.5oz cacao
  • 160 g / 5.6oz flour
  • 160 ml / 5.6oz milk
  • A pinch salt
  • 1/2 package vanilla sugar
  • 100 g/ 3.5oz powdered sugar

The frosting:
  • 110g / 3.9oz powdered sugar
  • 1 package of whipping cream stiffener
  • 250 ml / 8.8oz cream

  1. Beat the butter with eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar and milk until it is of creamy consistence.
  2. Afterwards you mix up flour, baking soda, cacao and salt. Preheat the oven to 180℃/356℉.
  3. Now you gently stir in the flour mixture to the butter mixture.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared muffin cups and bake it for 20 - 25 minutes. Let them cool after taking them out of the oven.

The frosting:

  1. Whip the cream and add sugar and whipping cream stiffener.
  2. Now apply the frosting with a frosting bag.
  3. Decorate the muffin as you like.

Hope you have as much fun making the cupcakes as I had. Good luck and enjoy!
